1949 American LaFrance 700 Series Quint

July 2008 Notice - "BIG GREEN" IS FOR SALE

Full Description

Ladder 58-6 is a 1949 American LaFrance 700 Series Quint.  It last served the Scottdale Volunteer Fire Department in Scottdale, Pennsylvania.  Originally delivered to the Borough of Dormont, Pennsylvania, in 1949, as a true 700 Series with a Model "E" V-12 Gasoline Engine, a 4-speed Manual Transmission, and a 75-foot Aerial, Ladder 58-6 has been rebuilt and repainted multiple times.  It now features a 1000 Series cab along with a 6V53 Detroit Diesel Engine, an Allison HT-740 6-speed Automatic Transmission, Air Brakes, and a 100-foot Aerial.  The pump, which has been partially removed, is rated at 750 G.P.M.  For simplicity sake, Ladder 58-6 is still referred to as a "1949."  It carries American LaFrance Registered No. 9145.

Additional Information

The most recent service to both the truck and aerial took place in June 2006 by Fire Service, Inc., in Columbus, Indiana.  At the same time of the service, the front tires were also replaced with brand-new Firestone tires.  The new front tires have less than 300 miles on them.  I believe the transmission is in need of servicing, it will occasionally be sluggish on the downshift.  It also needs a new cable for the speedometer.  I have not had the aerial raised since late-2006, but as stated, it underwent a complete service earlier that year.  The pump is inoperable.  It will cruise at 50-55 M.P.H.

Sold as-is, where-is, with no guarantees written, implied, or expressed.  F.O.B. Tipton, Indiana.

The Mars Light, Sterling Model 30 SirenLight, and Ladder Pipe will be removed prior to sell.

Serious inquiries only, please.
